#4. Receive up to $5,000 loan forgiveness through qualifying loan forgiveness programs.

Borrowers who received a South Carolina Teachers Loan or a SCPACE Loan may be eligible to forgive portions of their loan indebtedness by teaching in certain critical geographic and subject areas in the SC public school system. Please contact South Carolina Student Loan services for information on these loan programs, applications, and loan forgiveness.

CERTIFICATION


RECIPROCITY FOR OUT OF STATE RETIRED TEACHERS

Educators who present a current standard out-of-state certification/certificate are eligible for a comparable South Carolina professional certificate if they have at least three school years of teaching experience credit in an acceptable position (see 
Professional Certification Eligibility) in the last seven years on that valid standard certificate. For more detailed information, visit the SC Department of Education Out-of-State Teachers page.


ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION: NOT CERTIFIED BUT WANT TO TEACH? 

STEP 1. Before you apply for a position in Marlboro County School District, you are required to have the necessary required examinations completed, including Praxis or other examinations.

STEP 2. Secure a letter from the examination providers that you have completed and passed the examinations. 

STEP 3. Select an alternative certification route.

STEP 4. Secure Letter of Eligibility, if issued by the SC Dept. of Education, due to pending certification status (PACE, CATE, etc.). For more information, visit PACE Statement of Eligibility

STEP 5. Apply for a position in Marlboro.



RETIREMENT EARNINGS LIMITATION EXEMPTION 

A retired member of the South Carolina system may return to employment covered by the system without affecting the monthly retirement allowance she/he is receiving from the system if the retired member is a certified teacher and is employed by a school district to teach in the classroom in his area of certification in a critical academic need area or geographic need area as defined by the SC State Board of Education.
