Emergency Information
Weather and Emergency Announcements
In the event of inclement weather or an emergency situation, the Marlboro County School District takes every precaution to ensure the safety of students. District staff members work continually with local police, sheriff, fire, and emergency management personnel to improve and fine tune district emergency plans. Our number one priority is always the safety and security of students and staff. Arrangements have been made with radio and TV stations to broadcast emergency information regarding the operation of school.
Inclement weather information
The school district will keep the community informed through the district website, SwiftK12 Telephone Messaging System and through the following radio and TV stations.
Radio and Television Stations
•WCRE Radio 1420 AM and 93.9 FM
•WBTW News 13
•WMBF News 10
•WPDE News 15
If the Marlboro County School District is not mentioned during the news broadcast, school will be open with buses operating on as normal a schedule as possible.
Apptegy Messaging System
The school district’s Apptegy Messaging System can rapidly alert parents of weather-related school closures or changes in start or dismissal times. The system is programmed to call the primary number that parents/guardians have listed on their child’s enrollment card.
Emergency During School
The district has put in place an emergency contacts list that will be used in the event of emergency after hours. Each school site has a Crisis Management Plan that has been developed and the schools hold drills on a variety of crises including fire, earthquakes, tornado, and armed and unarmed intruders drills. Depending on the type of emergency, decisions affecting schools will be made by district officials in collaboration with the Marlboro County Sheriff's Department, Bennettsville Police Department, Clio Police Department, and the McColl Police Department. Please DO NOT call the school, transportation department, or district office. If the phone lines are working, they will be used for emergency communication. The district will communicate decisions to parents and the community via district website, radio, television, and the Alert Solutions Telephone Messaging System.
Emergency Announcements
The following is an explanation of district announcements that may be used during inclement weather or other emergency situations.
School Closings
School closings indicate that schools are closed to include all after school and evening activities. This applies only to the day that the announcement is made.
One Hour Delay
All schedules will operate with a one hour delay. Bus pick-up schedules will operate on a delay, and buses will operate on normal routes. Classes will dismiss at the normal time unless otherwise announced. Lunches will be served throughout the district.
Two Hour Delay
A two-hour delay means: (1) students who ride the bus should report to their bus stops two hours later than usual; (2) car-riders should report to their schools two hours later than usual; For example: schools that usually start at 8 a.m. will start at 10 a.m. instead.
