BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. – Mr. Mike Skipper, long time “Voice of the Marlboro County Bulldogs” passed away on Wednesday, February 16th. Tuesday night, February 22, 2022, at a special called Board meeting, the Marlboro County School Board voted to name the press box at McAlpine Stadium the “Mike Skipper Press Box.”. The motion was made as Chair Jackie Branch relinquished his duties as Chair to Vice Chair, Rev. James E. Smith to make the motion. Mr. Branch stated, “Mike loved sports, especially the Bulldogs, the students in Marlboro County in general. He was one of the most humble and genuine guys you will ever meet. Whenever you heard that unmistakable voice resonate over the PA system, you knew you were in McAlpine Stadium on a Friday night and you knew it would be entertaining. Football games won’t be the same without him. Mike was the kind of person who never realized the impact he had on fans, players, and students alike.”
Mr. Branch’s motion was seconded by Kathy Manville and passed with all voting in favor, with the except of one who abstained.
